NORWICH DEVILS AWARD NIGHT 2007
October 20th, 2007. Report by Peter Wrigley
Team MVP Troy Schmidgall

Following their succeessful 2007 season, going unbeaten throughout their entire campaign and winning the Division 2 title game in Sheffield, the Norwich Devils held their awards night last week.

The top award, voted the team's Most Valuable Player for the season, went to quarterback Troy Schmidgall. Troy, who was, until this season, a defensive back with the team, was converted to quarterback by coach Nick Rockell. He then led the team to 10 regular season wins, an incedible feat for a "rookie" quarterback.

Offensive MVP was receiver Ben Barker who, whilst not leading the team statistically in most catches, did lead in yards per catch, providing the team with it's deep threat in pass plays.

Defensive MVP was American Rodney Bonton who, from nose tackle stood second in overall number of tackles for the team, a big achievement from that position.

It proved to be a good year for receivers with other awards going to receivers Nick Welsh, who received the Perriton award for Most Improved Player, and John Sherwood, who was voted Rookie of the Year.

The final award, the prestigious Coaches Award, went to linebacker Gavin Bones. This award is voted for my the coaches for the biggest contribution to the team.
